OBITUARY FROM HOLMAN FUNERAL HOME OF OZARK ~   334‑774‑5348


     Mr. Lester Curt Head, 91, of Ozark, died Monday, January 14, 2013, in Raymond, Mississippi.


     Funeral services will be 10:00 A. M. Friday, January 18, 2013, from Ozark Baptist Church with Reverend Dr. Steve King officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens with Military Honors, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 5:00 P. M. until 7:00 P. M.


                Lester Curt Head was born on February 1, 1921, to Chester and Bonnie Head of Ozark, Alabama.  After graduating from Ozark High School in 1939 he joined the Navy.  While serving in the Navy during World War II, he survived the Pearl Harbor attack and was wounded during a fierce night naval battle at Guadalcanal.  Curt was stationed in San Diego at the Sound School where he met his wife Louetta Moore Head. Louetta had moved from South Dakota to San Diego, California to work in a defense plant. They were married at the Baptist Church in San Diego on September 10, 1943.  After the war Curt and Louetta came back to Ozark where he attended Auburn University and worked at Camp Rucker in the Engineering Department.


                Curt ran a Standard Service Station for 21 years on the Court Square in Ozark.  Curt sponsored Tennessee Ernie Ford Hymns every Sunday on WOZK radio.  He belonged to many civic organizations.  He was President of the Chamber of Commerce and was voted man of the year in 1963.  He also was Tax Assessor and Probate Judge of Dale County, where he was instrumental in getting the landfill and the County Vehicle Building approved and constructed.  Curt retired with the County after 16 years.


                In April 2012, Curt and his wife Louetta, moved to Raymond, MS to be near their daughter and son-in-law, Ed and Carolyn Buchanan. 


Curt is much loved by many, many friends.  He was proceeded in death by his parents, Chester and Bonnie Head; one sister, Barbara Cotter of Ozark; two brothers, Willie Chester Head, Jr. of Fairfax, VA and Frank C. Head of Mobile, AL; two grandchildren, Ashley Curt Buchanan of Clinton, MS and Ronald Nafziger of Milton Freewater, OR.  Curt is survived by his wife of 69 years, Louetta Moore Head; his two daughters and their spouses, Ed and Carolyn Buchanan of Clinton, MS and Larry and Barbara Ann Nafziger of Milton Freewater, OR; one sister, Jeanette Carr of Ozark, AL; three grandchildren and their spouses, Eddie Buchanan of Pearl, MS, Laura Buchanan of Clinton, MS ,Randy and Beth Nafziger of Bakersfield, CA, and Renee Nafziger of Federal Way, WA; six great grandchildren, one niece, Debbie Parnell of Ashford, AL; and five nephews, Richard Carr of Ardmore AL, David Carr of Pine Mountain, GA, Jeff Head of Warrenton, VA, Steve Head of Fairfax, VA, and Frank C. Head, Jr. of Mobile, AL.
