OBITUARY FROM HOLMAN FUNERAL HOME OF OZARK

­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­Mrs. Jewell Hughes Payne, age 95, of Skipperville, died Sunday morning, September 22, 2013, in Ozark Health and Rehabilitation Center.  Funeral services will be 11:00 A. M.  Tuesday, September 24, 2013, in the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home in Ozark with Reverend Freddie McCain officiating. Interment will follow in Bersheba Cemetery, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends Tuesday at the funeral home from 9:30 A. M. until service time.  Mrs. Payne was born September 13, 1918 in Dale County to the late John and Hattie Dykes Hughes. She was a devoted member of Skipperville United Methodist Church where she was active in the Church Circles. Mrs. Payne had a lengthy career with Dale Medical Center as a dedicated Licensed Practical Nurse.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Levy Payne, Sr.; one daughter and son-in-law, Helen and Ray Newman; one son, Levy Payne, Jr.; her son-in-law, Russell Harris; her twin sister, Lucille Baldwin; three sisters and four brothers.  Survivors include one daughter, Robbie Harris of Skipperville;  one son and daughter-in-law, Don and Ellen Payne of Wetumpka; seven grandchildren, Mike Newman (Pam) of Pike Road, Mark Newman (Priscilla) of Tallassee, Roy Newman (Angie) of Auburn, Donald Payne (Katherine) of Prattville, Cathy Payne of Montgomery, Jack Harris (Shannon) of Skipperville, Susan Stringfellow (Randy) of Lewisville, North Carolina.
