OBITUARY FROM HOLMAN FUNERAL HOME OF OZARK   ~   334‑774‑5348


Mrs. Rachel Jerkins Childs, age 96, of Hartford, died early Friday morning, August 22, 2014, in Hartford Health Care.


Funeral services will be 2:30 P. M. Monday, August 25, 2014, from Hartford First United Methodist Church with Reverend Dana Brady and Reverend Dr. Pat Harris officiating.  Interment will follow in Hartford City Cemetery.   The family will receive friends Monday at the church from 12:30 P. M. until service time.


Mrs. Childs was born January 16, 1918 in Geneva County to the late George Washington Jerkins and Lucy Daughtry Jerkins. She was a member of Hartford United Methodist Church, a homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.   In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Maxwell Childs; her son, Joe Maxwell Childs, Jr.; and six sisters, Agnes Jerkins, Jewel Miller, Lucy Boone, Mary Nell Cobb, Sara Gay, and Peggy Capron.


Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and Joe Granger of Birmingham, AL, Mary and Craig Formby of Baltimore, MD;


grandchildren, Dana and Mike Mungenast, Lance and Karla Granger, Peter Formby, Caitlin Formby, Daley and Mike Navalkowski;


great grandchildren, Anna Mungenast, Joseph Mungenast, Mary Julia Granger, Max Granger.


The family suggests that memorials be made in her memory to the Hartford First United Methodist Church Building Fund, 205 South Third Avenue, Hartford, AL 36344.
