ABBEVILLE. . .Olin Murphy Smith, a resident of Abbeville, died Wednesday morning, February 10, 2016, in the Henry County Health & Rehabilitation Facility. He was 95.     

            Funeral services will be held at 2:30 P.M Friday, February 12, 2016, in the Sardis Baptist Church with Reverend George Bryan and Reverend Fred Woodall officiating. Graveside services, with military honors, will follow in the church cemetery.  Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Thursday at the mortuary.

            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sardis Baptist Cemetery Fund c/o Brenda Roberson, 538 County Road 23, Abbeville, AL 36310.

            Mr. Smith was born and reared near Abbeville, son of the late John Alto Smith and Willie Mae Murphy Smith. He served his country in the U. S. Army during World War II. Mr. Smith was an active member of the Sardis Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, formerly taught the Adult Men’s Sunday School Class and operated the tape ministry. In earlier years, he served as the secretary & treasurer of the Bethlehem Water Authority. Mr. Smith retired as the owner and operator of Smith’s Grocery and also had been engaged in cattle farming. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Astrid Bush Smith, a son, Roger Olin Smith, a sister, Jean Smith Blount, a step-son-in-law, Verby McCraney, and a brother, J. B. Smith.

            Surviving relatives include his wife, Louise Hartzog Smith; grandsons, Ryan Smith and Adam Smith; daughter-in-law, Gloria Smith; step-daughters, Mary Lou Money (Frankie), Haleburg; and Carolyn McCraney, Abbeville; a step-son, David Dixon (Peggy), Clanton, AL; a sister-in-law, Inez Smith, Abbeville; three step-grandchildren,  five step-great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandson; several nieces and nephews including Benny Smith, Brenda Fulford and Brent Smith.
