 Patricia Ruth Pickett Klapal


Patricia Ruth Pickett Klapal, of Dothan, passed away Sunday, December 7, 2014 at Noland Hospital following a brief illness. She was 87.


Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at Byrd Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Clint McBroom officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to service time. At other times the family will be at the Klapal residence, 1001 Sumter Street in Dothan.


Flowers are being accepted or memorials may be made to Highland Park United Methodist Church, 1619 S. Park Ave., Dothan, AL, 36301.


Mrs. Klapal was born August 17, 1927 in Newton, Alabama to John and Allie Snell Pickett. She married the love of her life on May 9, 1945. They lived a long and happy life together. They traveled many years and lived in the states and overseas as well. Mrs. Klapal was an Air Force wife and enjoyed participating in all the social actives required of her. Upon her husband’s retirement, they chose Dothan as their home and the place they wanted to finish raising their 4 children.


 Mrs. Klapal was a wife, mother and homemaker and was very proud of her home, as seen through her decorating skills. She was an avid seamstress and in early years loved to raise plants and flowers. She enjoyed being a stay at home mother and her life was her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and just recently a great-great grandmother. Mrs. Klapal was a member of the Highland Park United Methodist Church and the Faith, Hope and Love Sunday School Class. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, sister, aunt and friend and will be greatly missed by all that knew her.


Mrs. Klapal is predeceased by her parents, John and Allie Pickett, sisters and brothers-in-law, Ethel (Ralph) Lee, Jewell (Lewis) Glover, Mary (Roy) Lee, Myrtle (Marvin) Haisten; brothers, Wilson Pickett, Johnny Pickett and Odell Pickett.


She leaves behind to cherish her memory her loving husband of 69 years, Eldon ‘Al’ Klapal of Dothan; her children, Marlena Bonner and Marty Juve of Wicksburg, Jane Hartley of Dothan, Xanthea Kennedy of Deatsville and Freddy (Teresa) Klapal of Kinsey; grandchildren, Michele Sorrells, Noel Vanlandingham (Dawn), Lance (Kelly) Hawkins, Curtis (Michelle) Hillman, Jr., Charles A. Hartley, Tessa (Dusty) Connelly, Kristopher Klapal (LeighAnna), Donna (Jason) Pickens, Reed DeVane (Dawn); 14 great grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, James (Angelyn) Pickett and a sister-in-law, Geraldine Pickett; caregivers, Petrena Anthony and La’Tasha Simpson.


Pallbearers will be grandsons, Noel Vanlandingham, Charles A. Hartley, Curtis L. Hillman, Jr., Kristopher Klapal, Reed DeVane and a nephew, Kyn Pickett.
