PATSY  WARD  ELLIOTT

ABBEVILLE. . . Patsy Register Ward Elliott, a resident of the Henry County Health & Rehabilitation Facility, Abbeville, died Sunday, May 5, 2013, in a Dothan hospital. She was 85.

            Funeral services are at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, 2013, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Norman C. Simmons officiating. Burial will follow in the Newville Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary in Headland.

            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Southeast Alabama Medical Center Foundation, 1922 Fairview Ave., Dothan, Ala., 36301.

            Mrs. Elliott was a native of the Bethlehem community, near Headland, daughter of the late Chester Arthur Register and Ida Virginia Duce Register. She lived in Newville from 1946 until 1988 when she moved to Haleburg where she formerly served as Mayor. Mrs. Elliott was retired as Postmaster of the Columbia Post Office and had also been employed as a clerk’s aide in the office of the Henry County Circuit Clerk.  A member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church, she was a former member and Sunday school teacher in the Newville Baptist Church and the Haleburg Baptist Church. In earlier years, Mrs. Elliott served on the Henry County Health Authority Board and also served as a volunteer at Southeast Alabama Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Ralph Myers Ward, and John Elbert Elliott, a daughter, Angela Ward, and a grandson, Mark Myers Ward.

            She is survived by her son, Mark L. Ward and wife, Debbie of Dothan; grandchildren, Jamie Ward, Michael Ward and wife, Wanda; Dennis Shaw, Samantha Autry Long, and Sidney Olivia Smith; and a sister, Lorraine May of Pensacola, Fla.
