Peggy S. Bowden, age 87, of Enterprise, AL, passed away Tuesday, December 30, 2014 in Enterprise.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, January 2, 2015 at St. Luke United Methodist Church with Rev. Ben Bowden and Rev. Stephen D. Warren officiating.  Burial will follow in Meadowlawn Cemetery with Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory directing.  The family will receive friends at the church on Friday beginning at 9:30 A.M.  Memorial contributions may be made to The Jimmy Bowden Foundation, P.O. Box 311710, Enterprise, AL 36331, or St. Luke United Methodist Church, 201 Heath Street, Enterprise, AL 36330.

Peggy was born January 13, 1927, in Coffee County, Alabama, to Mercer and Murl Miller Smith. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Oren Bowden; her son, Jimmy Bowden; her brothers, Bobby, Wayne and Don Smith.

Mrs. Bowden was a charter member of St. Luke United Methodist Church; Wesley Crusaders Sunday School Class; Carolyn Strickland UMW; Enterprise Luncheon Pilot Club, with a lifetime membership where she received the Member Emeritus Award; and member of Daffodil Garden Club.  She retired after working as a legal secretary for thirty-six years.

Mrs. Bowden is survived by her son, Johnny (Shelly) Bowden, of Enterprise, AL; her brother, Mickey Smith, Enterprise, AL; daughter-in-law, Karen Bowden, Dothan, AL; grandchildren, Abby (Scott) Tippins, Auburn, AL, Jennifer (Calvin) Gorriaran, Sugar Land, TX, Rev. Ben (Lindsay) Bowden, Enterprise, AL; great-grandchildren, Ella Grace Tippins, James Tippins, Benjamin Tippins, Aven Gorriaran, Maya Gorriaran, Libby Bowden, Susie Bowden, Annie Bowden and George Bowden.

The family thanks Annette Windham, Martha Sipper, Betty Joe Hicks, Jenny Jerkins, Delaine Epperson, Cece Crouch, Peggy’s neighbors and her many dear friends for their love and care.
