DOTHAN. . .Peggy Smith Singletary, a resident of Dothan, died early Tuesday morning, August 30, 2016, in a Dothan hospital. She was 84.


            Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, September 1, 2016, in the Ward Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Ken Farley officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until11:00 A.M. Thursday at Ward Wilson Funeral Home.


            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Wiregrass Humane Society, P.O. Box 1045, Dothan, AL 36302.


            Mrs. Singletary was a native of Dothan where she lived most of her lifetime. She was a member of the South Lena Baptist Church. Mrs. Singletary was preceded in death by her husband, James B. “Rube” Singletary, a daughter, Melinda Singletary Johnson, two sisters, Merle Morris and Mary Louise Nichols, and a brother, James Smith.


            Surviving relatives include a daughter, Patsy Singletary Arnold, Dothan; a son-in-law, William G. “Greg” Johnson, Dothan; four grandchildren, Amy Penn (Jason), Stephanie Stewart, James Wesley Arnold, and Tommy Arnold; five great-grandchildren.


            The family would like to express their appreciation to special caregivers, Tyna Burnette and Natalie Cisneros, and SouthernCare Hospice for the loving care and kindness shown to Mrs. Singletary during her illness.
