PHILEMON  RISTER

DOTHAN. . .Philemon (Phil) Rister, a former resident of Dothan, died Saturday morning, July 25, 2015, in the Signature HealthCare of North Florida in Graceville. He was 96.

            Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, July 27, 2015, in the Blackwood Church, near Headland, with Pastor Phillip Collins officiating. Graveside services, with military honors, will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00 P.M. Sunday at the mortuary.

            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Blackwood Church, c/o Myron Johnson, 751 County Road 576, Headland, AL 36345.

            Mr. Rister was born and reared in the Blackwood Community of Dale County, son of the late Webster Lee Rister and Lillie Pastoria Brackin Rister. He was a graduate of the Midland City High School and also the Wadley Junior College in Wadley, Alabama. He served his country in the U. S. Army during World War II. Mr. Rister  moved to the Dothan area in 1950 where he lived most of his lifetime. He attended Blackwood Church. Mr. Rister was retired as the owner and operator of the Donut Castle in Daleville. He formerly owned and operated the West Main Pure Oil Service Station in Dothan. Mr. Rister was preceded in death by his wife, Nettie Gaye Luker Rister, his step-mother, Birdie K. Rister, three sisters, Quintelene Rister, Lois Rister Branch and Mildred Rister Hinson, a brother, Maurice Rister, a sister-in-law, Lois Rister, and a son-in-law, Pablo Price.

            Surviving relatives include three daughters, Linda Price, Apopka, FL; Sybil Rich, Dothan; and Laura Aplin (Albert), Slocomb; a son, Phillip L. Rister, Dothan; two sisters, Ella Verna Givens (Ralph), and Giscene Weaver, all of Headland; a brother, Neil Rister, (Pat), Headland; nine grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandson.           Serving as active pallbearers will be Jeff Aplin, Andres Price, Alberto Price, Antonio Price, Larry Rister and Lamar Rister.
