Rev. Leon Edward “Jack” Summerlin of Geneva, Alabama went to be with his Lord and Savior Thursday, July 11, 2013.  He was 82.

 

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 14, in the Jesus Christ Tabernacle with Rev. Richard Lawson, Rev. James Bracewell, Rev. Edward Williams and Rev. Jonathan Pitts officiating.  Bro. Jack will be placed into the church one hour prior to service time. Burial will follow in the Poplar Head United Methodist Church Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home and Crematory of Geneva directing.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday, July 13, from 6 until 8 p.m.

 

Rev. Summerlin was born July 10, 1931, in Geneva County, Alabama to the late John Paul and Elvira Moore Summerlin. He enjoyed living and working for the Lord.  For many years he served as pastor of the Jesus Christ Tabernacle Church.  After 47 years of service he retired from the Geneva Cotton Mill. Bro. Jack was a very loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather.  He was a very kind, giving person and gave of himself unselfishly.  He enjoyed attending the Geneva Senior Center where he had been a member for several years.

 

In addition to his parents his first wife and mother of his son, Avis Gray Summerlin, a brother, Clyde Summerlin, and two sisters, Mazie Adams and Mary Holt, all preceded him in death.

 

Survivors include his wife, Essie Lee Alford Summerlin; son, Greg Summerlin (Teresa); two grandchildren: Michelle Wages and Scott Summerlin (Marie); three great-grandchildren: Brandon Summerlin, Morgan and Austin Wages, all of Geneva; three step children: Charlene Lee (Jim), Charlotte, NC, Ashby Adams, Defuniak Springs, FL and Kirby Adams (Linda) Harpers Ferry, WV; two step grandchildren, Amber Paige (Jimmy), Rock Hill, SC and Matthew Lee, Clovis, NM; one step great-grandson, Nathaniel Paige; sister-in-law, Juanita Summerlin, Geneva; brother-in-law, Obie Adams, Defuniak Springs, FL; other extended family and a host of friends.
