PANAMA CITY, FLORIDA. . .Reverend Robert E. Strickland, a resident of Panama City, Florida, formerly of Columbia, Alabama, died Wednesday, May 14, 2014, in the Bay Medical Center in Panama City. He was 77.
A visitation for Reverend Strickland will be held from 6:00 until 7:00 P.M. Friday, May 16, 2014, in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel in Panama City, immediately followed by a memorial service with Reverend Jerry Moore officiating.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, May 17, 2014, in the First Baptist Church of Columbia with Dr. John Granger and Terry Pitchford officiating. Graveside services will follow in the Cottonwood City Cemetery, Cottonwood, Alabama. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 12:00 Noon until 1:00 P.M. Saturday in the sanctuary of the First Baptist Church of Columbia.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Covenant Hospice, 107 West 19th Street, Panama City, Florida 32405.
Reverend Strickland was born and reared in Cottonwood, son of the late John Calvin Strickland and Alice Jenkins Strickland. He was a graduate of Cottonwood High School and the Baptist Bible Institute (Baptist College of Florida) in Graceville. Reverend Strickland retired as the Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Columbia. In earlier years, he served as Pastor of the Bethel Baptist Church, Dothan, Hiland Park Baptist Church, Panama City, and the Kinsey Baptist Church in Kinsey, Alabama. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Columbia. Reverend Strickland was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Guy.
Surviving relatives include two sons, Stan Strickland (Andrea), Tampa, FL; and Mark Strickland (Deanna), Panama City; four grandchildren, Lillie Strickland, Lee Strickland, Gypsy Strickland, and Carny Strickland; a sister, Annie Lou Kirkland, Dothan; two brothers, J. C. Strickland (Betty), and Dan Strickland (Bobbie), Dothan.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Tyrek Granger, Ernest Tyson, Jerry Hayes, Lowell Bristow, David Pitchford, and John Pitchford.
