Mr. Robert “Bruce” Rankin, age 81, a resident of Dothan passed away early Sunday, January 24, 2016 at his residence.  


Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at the Glover Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Stephanie Cox and Rev. Randy Woodham officiating. A private family burial will follow at Memory Hill Cemetery. 


The family will be receiving friends at Glover Funeral Home on Tuesday January 26, 2016 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family request donations to the Greystone UMC building fund, P.O. Box 1506 Dothan, AL. 36302. 


Mr. Rankin was born August 28, 1934 in Brown County, Texas. His early years were spent on his family’s farm. At the age 14 his family moved to Fresno, California. He was a 1952 graduate of Fresno High School. Mr. Rankin excelled at football at Fresno High as well as Fresno State University where he was voted to the All American Team. 


Mr. Rankin served his country in the US Army and later the Army National Guard. While stationed at Ft. Rucker he met the love of his life, Nancy McCrory Rankin.  


In 1959 he was discharged from the Army and moved to Dothan. He and Nancy founded Rankin Construction Company. Over the years he built many houses in Alabama, Florida, and Georgia. A special thanks to Phil Trimm, Dennis Carnell, and Duncan Pharis for their many years of hard work and dedication. 


He enjoyed playing softball in the city league and played until he was in his 60s. He enjoyed spending time with his family and taught each of his children the importance of hard work and doing the right thing. 


Mr. Rankin was a long time member of Lafayette Street United Methodist Church and a charter member of Greystone United Methodist Church. 


Mr. Rankin was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Reagan Rankin and Treva Noama Vines Rankin. Two brothers, George White and Frank Rankin. 


Mr. Rankin is survived by his wife of 58 years, Nancy McCrory Rankin. One son, Tex Rankin (Rhonda), Three daughters, Cindy Easterwood (Larry), Treva Benak (Steve), and Amy Loftin (Jimbo) all of Dothan.


One sister Betty Rodgers of Fresno California. Two sisters in law Nora Joyce McNair and Miriam McCrory. 


Grandchildren, Heather Easterwood, Brittney Woodham (Kyle), Landon Easterwood, Mallory Benak, Kaylee Waldrip (Reid), Brynn Benak, Reagan Axtell ( Daniel), Ryleigh Rankin, Ryan Rankin, Elizabeth Michael (Seth), Claire Loftin and five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins and his beloved dog “Moochie” who stayed by his side throughout his illness. 


Active pallbearers will be his grandsons Landon Easterwood and Ryan Rankin and grandsons-in-law Kyle Woodham, Reid Waldrip, Seth Michael, and Daniel Axtell. 


Honarary pallbearers will be George Talley, James Tyson, Marty Robbins, and Blue Deese. 


The family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Paola Bass and Dr. John Dunn. A special thanks to Mr. George Talley. His granddaughter Heather was his private nurse and helped him so much. Also the Staff at Flowers Hospital, his caregiver, Tee from Home Helpers, Gentiva nurses Katie, Valerie, and Diana. Thank you for all your love and kindness shown to our dad. He was our Hero.
