Robert Jerry Brannon



Robert Jerry Brannon of Ozark, passed away Tuesday evening, April 7, 2015 after an extended illness. He was 67.


Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 12, 2015 at Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home Chapel with an Air Force Chaplain and Rev. Aubrey Sullivan officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens with Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday evening at the funeral home.

Jerry was born September 8, 1947 in Ozark, AL. He graduated from Carroll High School in 1966 and attended Troy State University until 1967.


He enlisted May 29, 1967 and served four years in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. Jerry served in the 554th “Red Horse” Unit, a heavy mobile civil combat engineer unit (69-70); one of five elite units that was first in country in Vietnam. He was also the recipient of numerous medals and awards including: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with V Device (Combat V), and the Republic of Vietnam “Gallantry Cross with Palm”.


After returning from Vietnam, Jerry was employed with the postal service, Crash Rescue Fire Dept. in Ft. Rucker and various overseas contract jobs. He attended the Alabama Aviation Technical College where he received his avionics licenses. He also attended Enterprise State Junior College where he received his Associates degree. Jerry was a member of Ozark Church of Christ.


Survivors include his mother, Dot Brannon; father, Robert Brannon; brother, Steve Brannon; niece, Tiffany Sullivan (Aubrey); nephew, Bo Brannon; niece, Stephanie Brannon; great nieces, Hayden Sullivan and Meagan Sullivan; great nephew, Jaxon Brannon; and special friends, Vicky Thrash and Patsy Palmer.
