Robert L. “Bob” Bateman, 86, a resident of Dothan, passed away, October 24, 2015 at a local hospital.

Memorial services will be held 2pm Sunday November 1, 2015 at Sunset Funeral Home with Pastor Rob Oates officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1-2pm Sunday. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Shriners International Headquarters, Attn: Donation Department, 2900 North Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, Florida 33607.

Mr. Bateman was born July 15, 1929 in Carl Junction Missouri and lived the early years of his life in Coos Bay, Oregon. He joined the United States Army in 1944 and served during the Occupation of Germany, the Korean War and two tours in Vietnam, for a total of 30 years of service until his retirement in 1969. Mr. Bateman was later employed with civil service in Washington for 15 years until his retirement in 1984. He resided in Springfield, Virginia until moving to Dothan in 2005. Mr. Bateman was preceded in death by his wife, Dorlien Bateman. He was a Mason, Shriner and a member of First Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include his son, John (Jeanette) Bateman; his daughter, Barbara A. McKee; his grandchildren, Shawn Bateman, Lauren Bateman, Michelle McKee; his great-grandchildren, Jack Bateman and Leona Bateman.
