DOTHAN…Roberta Barker (Mama Bert) went to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 18, 2016.

            Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, September 21, 2016, at Heritage Baptist Church with Reverend Van Clack, Reverend Bob Zbinden, and Reverend Jack Wingate officiating. Interment will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Reverend Coley M. Holloway officiating.  Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 10:00 A.M. until service time.

            Flowers will be accepted or donations made in her memory to Heritage Baptist Church, 1951 Westgate Parkway, Dothan, AL 36303.

            Mrs. Barker was a beautiful, Christian lady who enjoyed life and was a friend to all. She was an avid gardener and fisherman who shared her bounty with others. Her special talents in the kitchen were enjoyed by both guests and neighbors. She was a compassionate, merciful caregiver to those in need. As a loyal employee of Sears for twenty five years, she was both industrious and generous. Mrs. Barker was a member of the Heritage Baptist Church.

            Mama Bert was a doting wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her love for her family was unconditional and constant. She kept up-to-date on current activities in the lives of each member of the family. Mama Bert leaves an impressive legacy for her family and friends.

            Survivors include children, Lynn Sanders (Larry),  Cairo, GA; Jimmy Newsom (Sharon), Dothan; grandchildren, Michelle Elder (Darren), Stacey Ogden, Heath Sanders (Kati), Brian Newsom (Sydney), Carrie Wells (Jared), Drew Newsom (Anna); great-grandchildren, Corey Williams (Heaven), Logan Elder,  Hunter and Houston Sanders, Claire and Benjamin Newsom, Caroline and Will Wells, Lillie, Cole, and Charlie Newsom. Also surviving, are her much loved step-children and step-grandchildren.

            Serving as active pallbearers will be Larry Martin, Freddie Klapal, Michael Phillips, Doug Hadley, Bud McInnis, and Sam Moore. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the staff of Extendicare Health & Rehabilitation Center.

            The family expresses as a special thank you to the nurturing staff of Extendicare whom she claimed as her extended family.
