DOTHAN…Rodney Lewis Williams, a resident of Dothan, died early Wednesday morning, March 11, 2015, in a Dothan hospital, after a brief illness. He was 73.


            Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, March 13, 2015, in the Cowarts Baptist Church with Reverend Kevin Freeman and Reverend Tony Deese officiating. Graveside services, with military honors, will follow in the Columbia City Cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Thursday at the mortuary in Headland.


            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Cowarts Baptist Church Building Fund, 2855 Jordan Avenue, Cowarts, Alabama 36321.


            Mr. Williams was born in Jefferson County, Florida and reared in Malone, Florida, son of the late Charles Warren Williams and Hazel Lewis Williams. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Cuban Crisis. Mr. Williams moved to Dothan in 1981 and was a member of the Cowarts Baptist Church. Mr. Williams was employed as a truck driver all his adult lifetime. He was preceded in death by a half-sister and two half-brothers.


            Surviving relatives include his wife, Katrine Carpenter Williams, Dothan; two daughters, Lynne Coker (Craig), Enterprise; and Renee’ Hankins (Carl), Dothan; a sister, Shirley Williams, Monticello, Florida; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, including two special nephews, Bruce Carpenter and Bobby Carpenter (Keila), all of Tallahassee, Florida.
