Mr. Buddy Chesnut of Gordon died Wednesday June 24, 2015 peacefully at his residence.  He was 89 years old.


Funeral services will be Saturday June 27, 2015 in Liberty Baptist Church Pansey Alabama, with Rev. Coley M. Holloway officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 1pm until 3pm with the funeral services immediately following the visitation.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.


Mr. Chesnut was born in Ashford, Alabama on February 22, 1926 the son of the late Walter and Effie Chesnut.  He married Gladys Cook on October 11, 1946. Buddy has lived in the Gordon area most of his entire life.  Mr. Chesnut was a WWII Veteran serving in the Pacific for the U.S. Army.  He was an avid farmer for most of his life a served with the Houston County Board of Education as a school bus driver for over 30 years.  He was a lifetime member and deacon of Liberty Baptist Church.


He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Effie Chesnut, his loving wife of over 60 years Gladys Cook Chesnut, brothers Dewey and wife Vassie Mae Chesnut, James Chesnut, Brothers in law Howard Dovre, George McNiel Jr., Leon and wife Agnes Cook, C.L. Cook and wife Billerene, sisters Vivian Bingham and husband Floyd, Maggie Hatfield and husband Alton.


Survivors include two sons and daughter in laws, Dan and Becky Chestnut of Dothan, John and Wendy Chesnut of Dothan, sisters Edna and Charlie Moore of Ozark, Ruth Dovre of Dothan, Joyce and Ed Hasty of Sacramento, California, sister in law Lottie McNiel of Pansey, brother in law Freeman and Sylvia Cook of Auburndale Florida.  Grandchildren, Chris Chestnut and wife Dana, Jeff Chestnut and wife Kerri, Bill Chestnut and wife Mandy, Amy Davis, Christy Raley, Jessica Foster and husband Shannon, Jason Shiver and wife Kerri, Jacey Chesnut and friend Gage Noss.  14 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.


Active pallbearers will be Chris Chestnut, Jeff Chestnut, Bill Chestnut, Jason Shiver, Lee Cole, Shannon Foster


He now is at peace and will be truly be missed by many.
