DOTHAN. . .Ruby Oates Arnold, a resident of Dothan, died Sunday, January 11, 2015, at her home. She was 81.

            Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, January 14, 2015, in the Highland Park United Methodist Church with Reverend Clint McBroom officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory, between Dothan and Headland. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Wednesday in the church sanctuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Highland Park United Methodist Church, 1619 South Park Avenue, Dothan, AL 36301.

            Mrs. Arnold was born and raised in the Tumbleton Community, daughter of the late John Harper Oates and Ruth Thomas Oates. She was a 1950 graduate of Headland High School. She was retired as a bookkeeper from SouthTrust Bank. Mrs. Arnold was a longtime member of the Highland Park United Methodist Church and was active in the Fellowship Sunday School Class, the Highlanders, and the United Methodist Women. She was preceded in death by a son, John Randall Arnold, a grandson, Nathan Lee Arnold, two sisters, Lizzie Hodges and Alice Oates, and three brothers, Henry Patrick Oates, Ralph Oates and Ed Oates.

            Surviving relatives include her husband, Gerald H. Arnold; three sons, Dr. David H. Arnold (Sandra), Geneva; Rev. Danny R. Arnold (Alice), Troy; and Joe Harper Arnold (Starlett), LaGrange, GA; a sister, Johnnie Ruth Taylor, a sister-in-law, Mauline Oates, both of the Tumbleton Community; nine grandchildren, Sara Thompson (Bryan), Ruth Tinsley (David), Noah Arnold, Peter Arnold, Benjamin Arnold, Joshua Arnold, Randall Arnold, Rebekah Arnold, and Rachel Arnold; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
