Ruth Lana Clark Piland, 86, passed away at her home in Colorado Springs, CO., on July 17, 2016.  A memorial service will be held in Geneva, AL., on Friday, August 12, 2016, at 6:00 pm in the chapel of Pittman Funeral Home with Brandy Smith Daughtry of Dothan, officiating.

Ruth was born in Holmes Co., FL., on July 13, 1930, to the late Early Lane Clark, Sr., and Sabie Elmira Heath Clark. She was raised in Holmes Co. where she graduated from Bethlehem High School, Class of 1950. After completing high school, Ruth moved to Montgomery where she met her loving, dedicated husband, Birley “Tink” Piland, Jr., whom she wed on Dec. 22, 1952. After traveling with the military to several locations, they settled down permanently in Colorado Springs, CO in 1955.

         Ruth was an extraordinary woman, loved by those who had the pleasure of knowing her. She devoted most of her life to helping others. She spent numerous years working with orthopedic and ostomy patients ensuring they had the best possible quality of life. After retiring, she volunteered performing newborn hearing screenings at local hospitals. She enjoyed volunteering at the Colorado Springs Police Academy for many years.

         Ruth was preceded in death by her six brothers: David Carroll, Monroe Clark, Roy Clark, Early Lane Clark Jr., all of Holmes Co., FL, and Mardi L. Clark and Barnard Clark of Geneva, AL.; and three sisters: Amy Clark Hand of Geneva, AL, Bertha Clark and Magdlena Clark Morrell of Holmes Co., FL.

         She is survived by her devoted, ever-loving husband of sixty-four wonderful years, Birley “Tink” Piland, Jr., of Colorado Springs, CO: also, her very special big sister “Peggy,” Elizabeth Barnes of Westerly, RI: and four special nieces Barbara Clark Dunham, Debbie Clark Morris, Gina Clark Blackmon all of Geneva, AL., and Marilyn Clark Smith of Dothan, AL.
