Ruth Pounds Ricketts

Ruth Pounds Ricketts, 94, a resident of Dothan, passed away Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at Extendicare.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1-2 Saturday, March 12, 2016. Private graveside services will follow at Memory Hill Cemetery with Rev. Allie Freeman of First United Methodist Church officiating and Byrd Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Ricketts was born May 9, 1921 in Albertville, Alabama. She was the youngest of five children. She spent her early life in Gadsden and it was there that she met her husband of 72 years, Tommy Ricketts. They were married in 1940 and began their life that brought them to Dothan in 1955 to make a home for their family. Her greatest accomplishment became that of a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She leaves a legacy of love for her family who she touched with warmth, goodness, and grace.

Mrs. Ricketts was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Annie Pounds, two brothers, two sisters, a son, Tommy (Rick) Ricketts, Jr., a daughter, Debbie Ricketts Williamson and husband, Tommy L. Ricketts, Sr.

She is survived by a daughter, Lynda (Jim) Powell; four grandsons, Scott (Alyson) Powell, Kelly (Amy) Powell, all of Dothan, Ryan (Kristen) Slaughter, Jonathan (Rachel) Slaughter, all of Birmingham; ten great grandchildren.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of The Terrace at Grove Park, Dothan Companions and Extendicare for their attentiveness and loving care.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wiregrass Food Bank, 382 Twitchell Road, Dothan, AL 36303 or Dothan Area Botanical Gardens, 5130 Headland Avenue, Dothan, AL 36303.
