BLUE SPRINGS. . .Sadie Cordell Smith, a resident of Blue Springs, died Wednesday afternoon, March 25, 2015,atat her home. She was 86.


            Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M Saturday, March 28, 2015 in the Peniel Baptist Church with Reverend Tim McCraney and Reverend Don Moore officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Friday, March 27, 2015, at the mortuary in Abbeville.


            Mrs. Smith was born and reared in Barbour County, near Texasville, daughter of the late Ruby J. Cordell and Nellie C. Gulledge Cordell. She lived in Blue Springs most of her adult lifetime. Mrs. Smith was formerly employed by WestPoint Stevens in Abbeville, Dowling Manufacturing Co. in Louisville, and B & F Manufacturing in Abbeville. She was a member of the Peniel Baptist Church. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, J. B. (Pete) Smith, an infant son, James Ray Smith, a sister, Winnie Mae Blankenship Rentz, two brothers, Ruben Lee Cordell and J. C. Cordell, two grandsons, and a great-grandson.


            Surviving relatives include three daughters, Betty Jean Watford (Jerry), Abbeville; Ann Penton (Joe), Pensacola, FL; and Linda Fisher (Bill), Blue Springs; four sons, Roy Dean Smith (JoAnn), Tumbleton Community; Mike Smith (Hilda Jean), Clio; Pat Smith, Blue Springs; and Randy Smith (Julene), Blue Springs; two sisters, Christine Brown (Wayne), Edwin Community; and Frances Cordell (Junior), Texasville; three brothers, Rufus Cordell, Eufaula; Woodrow Cordell, Baker Hill; and Johnny Cordell (Susan), Abbeville; nineteen grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren.


            Sons and grandsons will serve as active pallbearers.


            The family would like to express their appreciation to those loving family members, including Bill Fisher, who helped take care of Mrs. Smith during her illness. We will always love you Mother, and will miss you every minute.
