SAM  GORDON  SKIPPER

 

ASHFORD. . .Sam Gordon (Gordy) Skipper, a resident of Ashford, died early Saturday morning, June 28, 2014, in the emergency room of the Southeast Alabama Medical Center. He was 59.

            Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, June 30, 2014, in the Northside Assembly of God, 645 Roney Road, between Dothan and Kinsey, with Pastor Greg Cooper officiating. Burial will follow in the Ashford City Cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Monday in the church sanctuary. At other times, the family will be at the home of Jimmy Posey, 1318 Edsel Deese Road, Ashford.

            Mr. Skipper was born and reared in Abbeville and was a 1975 graduate of Abbeville Christian Academy. He moved to Ashford in 1991. Mr. Skipper was formerly employed as a truck driver with Sam’s Poultry & Seafood and Skipper Trucking, both in Abbeville. He was affiliated with Northside Assembly of God. Mr. Skipper was preceded in death by his father, Sam Pat Skipper, Jr.

            Surviving relatives include his wife of thirty-four years, Barbara Posey Skipper, Ashford; four sons, Eric Chambers, (Donna), Vista, CA; Mitch Chambers (Jessica), Ashford; Joseph Skipper (Callie), Graceville, FL; and Ben Chambers, Ashford; his mother, Barbara Alston Skipper, Abbeville; two sisters, Debbie Mobley (Danny); and Dana Starling (Philip), all of Abbeville; a brother, Jeff Skipper (Jody), Abbeville; nine grandchildren, Ashlee Bernal (Jorge), Lexi Chambers, Sammie Chambers, Devin Chambers, Brice Chambers, Levi Chambers, Ava Skipper, Cora Skipper, and Alex Chambers; a brother-in-law, Jimmy Posey (Delories), Ashford; his canine friends, Sadie, RooRoo, Jon-Jon, and Hiedi; and his two beloved deceased dogs, Spot and Mattie.
