Samuel C. Craig



Samuel C. Craig, (Lt Col USAF, Ret) a resident of Asheville, NC, died Saturday, December 27, 2014 at his residence. He was 89.


Graveside services with full military honors will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at Memory Hill Cemetery with Father Peter Wong officiating and Byrd Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends following the graveside services.


In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to The Cathedral of All Souls, 9 Swan Street, Asheville, NC, 28803 or a favorite charity.


Colonel Craig was born July 1, 1925 in Giles County, Tennessee to S. C. and Margaret Craig and was raised in Decatur, Alabama. He completed grammar and High School in Decatur and graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration in 1948.  


Colonel Craig was a graduate of the Squadron Office School, Air Command and Staff College and the Air War College, U.S. Air Force. He retired from the U.S. Air Force as Lt. Colonel in July of 1980 after over 31 years of active military service, including WW II and the Korean and Vietnam conflicts. Following his military service he was employed by the State of Alabama Department of Revenue, retiring from that agency in March of 1992. He was a member of The Cathedral of All Souls.


Colonel Craig is predeceased by his wife, Robyn Driver Craig.


He is survived by a daughter, Connie Nell Craig of Asheville, NC; several nieces and nephews and other family members.
