SAMUEL  ELIJAH  KILGORE

 

COWARTS, ALABAMA…Samuel Elijah Kilgore, a resident of Cowarts, Alabama, died Thursday morning, July 25, 2013, in a Dothan hospital. He was 61.

            Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Monday, July 29, 2013, in the Grandview Baptist Church with Pastor Barry Simpson of Robertson County, Tennessee, Pastor Mike Grimes and Mr. Mark Redmond officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory, between Headland and Dothan. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 6:00 P.M. Sunday at the mortuary in Headland and also from 2:00 until 3:00 P.M. Monday in the sanctuary of the Grandview Baptist Church. 

            Sam Kilgore was born and reared in Joelton, Tennessee, son of the late William Thomas Kilgore and Vennie Ann Hendrixon Kilgore. He was a graduate of Cheatham County High School in Tennessee. Sam was retired as Store Manager with Lowe’s Home Improvement in Hermitage, Tennessee. He was involved in the establishment of Lowe’s Stores in Murfreesboro, TN, Dothan, Enterprise, Cartersville, GA, Gainesville, GA, and Hermitage, TN. After retiring from Lowe’s, he moved to Cowarts in 2004, where he purchased Roundabout Golf Course. 

            Sam was preceded in death by three sisters, Ruby Hendrix, Dora Kilgore, and Patsy Majors, and four brothers, Erie Kilgore, Jimmy Kilgore, Glen Kilgore, and Don Kilgore.

            Surviving relatives include his wife, Ruth Garver Kilgore, a daughter, Jennifer Brackin (Mark), and a son, Samuel Brandon Kilgore, all of Cowarts; a granddaughter, Haley Brackin; four sisters, Virginia Amburgy (Don), Nashville, TN; Myrt Reeder, Joelton, TN; Gaynell Walker (Gilford), Pleasant View, TN; Sharon Binkley (Roby), Bluffton, SC; five brothers, Jack Kilgore (Peggy), and Frank Kilgore (Sandra), all of Joelton, TN; Bryant Kilgore (Dean), Ashland City, TN; Harold Kilgore (Jackie), Smithville, TN; Kelly Kilgore (Virginia), Joelton, TN; numerous nieces and nephews.
