 SAMUEL  THOMAS  JONES

DOTHAN, AL….Samuel Thomas (Sam) Jones, a resident of Dothan, died Sunday night, August 14, 2011, in the emergency room of a Dothan hospital. He was 57.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 17, 2011, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Norman C. Simmons officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory, between Headland and Dothan. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Tuesday at the mortuary in Headland. At other times, the family will be at the home of his brother, Dewey Jones, 1056 E. County Road 22, Headland.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 1449 Medical Park Drive, Birmingham, Alabama 35213 or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.

Mr. Jones was a native of Headland and lived in the Headland and Dothan area all of his lifetime. He was a 1972 graduate of Headland High School and received a Bachelors of Science Degree in Mathematics from Auburn University. Mr. Jones was currently employed at the Joseph M. Farley Nuclear Plant. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Headland and was an avid supporter of the Auburn Football Team.  Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin Dewey Jones and Dorothy Nell Granberry Jones.

Surviving relatives include four sisters, Cheryl Jones Tew and husband, Terry, Dothan, AL; Shelia Jones Andrews and husband, Greg; Ozark, AL; Lisa Jones Graham and husband, Jim; Madison, AL; Jennifer Jones Wilcox and husband, Mike, Bonifay, FL; a brother, Dewey Jones and wife, Linda, Headland, AL; Seven nieces and nephews, Amy Tew Jones and husband, Jonathan; Craig Tew; Kerri Jones Blankenship and husband, Steven; Brandon Jones; Seth Graham; Katie Wilcox and Kellie Wilcox; four great-nieces and great-nephews, John David Jones, Jack Jones, Emma Jones and Ellie Jones; aunts and uncles, Jeanette Deese, Ashford, AL; George Granberry, Headland, AL; and Herman Granberry and wife, Mary Ann, Ozark, AL; Byron Heath, Enterprise, AL; Ovie Jones and wife, Luvonne, Headland, AL; Rose Kerby and husband, Charles, Newton, AL; Martha Jones, Dothan, AL; and also several cousins and special friends.

Serving as active pallbearers will be Steve Money, Mike Jackson, Larry Joe Gamble, David Kerby, Mark Deese, Tony Shelley, Wyatt Oates, Brandon Jones and Mike Jones.
