Sara Turner Baxter Davis of Dothan, AL passed away at home on October 26, 2015. She was 90 years old.


She was born in 1925 in Dothan, AL to Sara Maude Turner Baxter and Floyd Baxter. On July 4, 1942, Sara Turner, an Auburn University Freshman, met the love of her life, Oral Lee Davis, an Army Air Corp pilot at Camp Rucker, on a blind date. That November they were married and remained happily married for 63 years. They worked together in the family business, Baxter Shoe Store, until their retirement.


She is survived by two children, Linda Davis Strange (Todd); Nancy Davis Thornell (Stanley-deceased); five grandchildren, Todd Thornell (Melissa); Jennifer Strange Crumpton (Glenn); Chris Thornell (Lana); Elizabeth Strange Burt; Anne Turner Thornell Carroll (Neal) and 13 great-grandchildren.


In lieu of flowers donations can be made to First Presbyterian Church of Dothan or to Covenant Hospice.


A Memorial Service to celebrate her life will be held 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 2, 2015 at First Presbyterian Church of Dothan with Rev. Robert C. Oates officiating. The family will receive visitors after the service.


Special thanks to Covenant Hospice for their excellent care for over a year and First Light. The family would also like to thank the unwavering love and care given by her daily caregivers, Betty, Sharon, Evelyn and Adele.
