Sarah Ann McQueen Harrison, of Dothan, died Friday, May 24, 2013 at her residence following an eighteen month battle with pancreatic cancer. Her cherished family members were by her bed side as she peacefully went home to be in the Lord’s presence where her beloved mother, father and friends who preceded her in death are waiting for her arrival.

Sarah grew up in Ft. Deposit graduating in l961 from Lowndes County High School. She cared deeply for the eighteen classmates who grew into lifelong friends. Jack Rogers, President of the Class of 1961, will give a eulogy for Sarah at her funeral services.

From 1961-1965, Sarah attended Judson College in Marion earning a BS degree in physical education and English. She excelled in athletic, leadership and service activities. She was a member of the hockey, tennis and basketball teams. She served as president of the Dorm Council and A Board. She was a Judson Representative and she was chosen for the Blazer Club. She was also chosen as a member of the Honor Council. Her senior year she was selected to Who’s Who Among Student Leaders in American Colleges and Universities.

In 1983, Sarah earned an MS degree in school counseling from Troy University Dothan. During her career she taught students in the Dothan City School System, the Montgomery County Public Schools, the Brewton City Schools as well as the Ozark City Schools. She loved being a teacher and she enjoyed working with K-12 students. She especially felt great rewards serving as a middle school counselor.

Sarah is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Dr. Thomas Harrison; two adoring children, Lee Anne (Rodney) Holland and Gray (Emily) Harrison; five exceptional grandchildren, Sarah Katherine and Harrison Holland; and, Lydia, Delcy and Graycie Harrison; an aunt, Peggy Woodham, Florala; four cousins, Robert and Melinda Woodham, Florala; Sheila Anderson, Florala; and, Joyce Higgs, Pensacola. The greatest love that one could know was to be a part of Sarah’s immediate and extended family. She was “Nan” to the grandchildren, and a wonderful spouse, respected mother and trusted friend to the rest of us. To be a part of this circle was to know unfailing love and devotion.
