ABBEVILLE. . .Sharon Shelley Maddox, a resident of Abbeville, died Sunday morning, June 14, 2015, at her home. She was 89.



            Memorial services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, June 21, 2015, in the First Baptist Church of Abbeville with Reverend Ryan Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 P.M. Sunday in the First Baptist Church Family Life Building. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.



            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Abbeville, P.O. Box 606, Abbeville, AL 36310.



            Mrs. Maddox was born and raised in the Tolbert Community of Henry County, daughter of the late Otie Marcus “Little Man” Shelley and Nellie Ophelia Mathis Shelley. She was a graduate of the Henry County High School in Headland. Mrs. Maddox received her four year degree in Secretarial Science with minors in Social Studies and Spanish from the University of Montevallo. She taught in Barbour and Henry County Schools for a number of years before resigning to raise her family.  Mrs. Maddox, along with her husband, formerly owned and operated The Lamp Post, a men’s and ladies apparel business in Abbeville, for twenty years.



            Mrs. Maddox was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Abbeville where she was a member of the church choir for fifty years, sang in the Women’s Ensemble/Sextet, and assisted with the youth choir in earlier years. She was a charter member of the Abbeville Garden Club and was a former member of the Floyd Music Club. Mrs. Maddox was preceded in death by her husband, Horace Stancil Maddox, daughter-in-law, Kimberly Shuler Maddox, and her sister, Allyson Shelley Davis.      



            Surviving relatives include two daughters, Lisa Maddox Martin and husband, Dr. Ben Martin, Dothan; and Shannon Maddox Robertson, Atlanta; a son, John Mark Maddox, Headland; four grandchildren, Justin Parish Martin (Kate Denney Martin), Lauren Martin Jernigan (Dan Jernigan), Sharon Katie Robertson, and Madison Shelley Maddox; three great-grandchildren, Mary Maddox Jernigan, Daniel Hays Jernigan, and Justin Parish Martin, Jr.
