Sherry Lynn Willis Tharpe, of Dothan, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Tuesday, April 22, 2014. She lost her courageous battle against cancer, but never quit fighting.

Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Thursday, April 24, 2014 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kathy Stumbaugh officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6 -8 pm and at other times will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lomax Willis, 7436 E. Hwy. 27, Ozark, AL.

Sherry grew up in the Brown’s Crossroads Community of Dale County. She loved people and making everyone laugh. Sherry had a gentle and kind spirit, if someone needed something and she had it, she would give it to them. She loved to draw, dance, fish, and grill. Grilling was her passion. Sherry would grill way more than she should and then she would think of somebody to take a plate to. Sherry loved her animals, Macy, an apple head Chihuahua, was her baby. She affectionately called Macy, her “little black girl”.

Sherry was preceded in death by her mother, Mrs. Norma Ruth Wiggins Willis.

Survivors include her partner of 14 years, Brenda Sanders; her daughter, Stacy Tharpe; her grandson, Casen Maxwell “Max” Tharpe of Dothan; her son and daughter-in-law, Jeremy (Joanie) Sanders; her two granddaughters, Joey Leann and Raina Maray Sanders of Alexandria Bay, New York; her father and step-mother, Lomax and Jeanette Willis of Brown’s Crossroads Community; her brother, Gary Willis of Headland; her sister and brother-in-law, Nancy (Shannon) Wambles of Bellwood; her 2 nephews, Will Brock and Dane Willis; her 3 nieces, Jessica (Cole) Harden, Kenzie Willis, and Madi Brock; many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins also survive.

The family would like to thank Dr. Steven Stokes and his staff, Dr. Thomas Brown and his staff, SAMC’s Chemo Room Staff, Circle Pharmacy Staff, Nursing staff and Chaplains at SouthernCare Hospice for all your care and concern for Sherry.

Special friends and neighbors, Bill and Becky Gruber and the rest of the gang. We love and appreciate you all.
