HEADLAND. . .Sheryl Granger Ellis, a former resident of Headland, died early Sunday evening, April 12, 2015, in a Dothan hospital. She was 78.


            Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, April 16, 2015, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Dr. Cecil M. Sanders, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Thursday at the mortuary.


            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Headland “Bridge To Tomorrow” Building Fund, 301 East Church Street, Headland, AL 36345.


            Mrs. Ellis was born and reared in Cottonwood, daughter of the late Joshua V. Granger and Ruby Hamm Granger. She was a graduate of Cottonwood High School and moved to Headland in 1956. Mrs. Ellis was a member of the First Baptist Church of Headland and the Faith Sunday School Class. She was retired as a Secretary of the First Baptist Church.  Mrs. Ellis was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn E. Ellis, a son, Russell Glenn (Rusty) Ellis, three sisters, Georgia Whitehead Granger, Beulah Gilbert and A. D. Miller; and two brothers, J. B. Whitehead and John L. Whitehead.


            Surviving relatives include two daughters, Lisa Ellis Curtis (Mike), Wendell, NC; and Sheryl Jean Ellis Luitjens, Kennesaw, GA; a sister, Blonnie Granger Skipper, Headland; a brother, Woodrow Granger, Leesburg, FL; five grandchildren, Christian Curtis, Natalie Curtis, Jessica Adams Thompson (Fernando), John Adams, Jr., and Steven Luitjens; two great-grandchildren, Rob Cathey and Jade Thompson.
