 Spurgeon Bonner



Cecil Spurgeon “Spud” Bonner, 90, a resident of Wicksburg, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2013 in Bay Minette, Alabama.


Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 27, 2013 at Pilgrim Home Baptist Church with Rev. Buddy Hood officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the church from 1 until 2 p.m. on Saturday prior to service time.


Mr. Bonner was born July 6, 1922 in Dale County and lived the early years of his life there. He later served in the U. S. Army Air Corp. He was a graduate of the University of Alabama where he received his degree in accounting. He was engaged in accounting most all of his working career. He also owned and operated Wicksburg Milling Company for several years. Mr. Bonner was a member of Pilgrim Home Baptist Church.


He is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers and sisters, and his wife, Betty Jean Dowling Bonner.


Survivors include a son, Mark Bonner and his wife Jan, of Yadkinville, NC; a daughter, Lynne Lewis of Wicksburg; grandchildren, Nikki Bonner of Wicksburg, Crystal Boyles and her husband, Jeff of Stokes County, NC, Rhett Bonner and Kelli Bonner, both of Yadkinville, NC; three great-grandchildren, Cloie Bonner and Makenzi Bonner, both of Wicksburg and Toby Boyles of Stokes County, NC; several nieces and nephews also survive.
