Stoney Allen Johnson, 69, of Dothan passed away Saturday, September 7, 2013 after a valiant fight with pancreatic cancer at a local hospital.


Memorial services will be 2 pm Friday, September 13, 2013 at Sunset Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 1-2 pm prior to the service at the funeral home.


Born Oct. 22, 1943 in Jack Horn, KY, Stoney graduated from Fleming-Neon High School in 1961. He joined the U.S. Army and while stationed at Ft. Benning, GA and met Shirley Suggs in 1962. The two were married Nov. 20, 1963. They had their 1st child, Scotty Johnson in 1965. Stoney served in the 1st Calvary in Vietnam Aug 1965-Sept 1966. After a brief stint at the Pentagon, the family moved to Germany in 1968 where their other child Sharee was born. From there Stoney was stationed at Ft. Sill, OK for 8 years then Raleigh NC and Nashville TN, then finally retiring at Ft. Polk, LA in 1982. The Johnson's then moved to Enterprise, AL and finally Dothan where Stoney worked for Long John Silver for the last 20 years. Stoney was not only a great husband, father, and PaPa, but was known for his sense of humor and love of animals. In the last 9 years Stoney's pride and joy has been his only grandchild, Dylan Evans. Stoney was preceded in death by both his parents, Earl and Callie Johnson, two sisters, Jean Sturgill and Hallie Tong.


Stoney is survived by his wife Shirley Johnson with whom he would have celebrated 50 years of marriage on Nov 20th; his son Scotty Johnson; his daughter Sharee Evans; a grandson Dylan Evans; three sisters, Jo Kelley, Faye Porath, and Tina Martino; a step-brother Kenny Johnson; countless nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts and friends. He will be in our hearts forever.
