HEADLAND. . .Sue Hartley Ward, a former resident of the Tumbleton Community of Henry County, died early Wednesday morning, October 8, 2014, in the Twin Magnolias Assisted Living in Abbeville. She was 92.


            Funeral services will be held at 2:30 P.M. Sunday, October 12, 2014, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Reverend George Bryan and Darden Kirby officiating. Graveside services will follow in Gardens of Memory with Reverend Mark Brantley officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:30 until 6:30 P.M. Saturday at the mortuary in Headland.


            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sardis Baptist Church, c/o Brenda Roberson, 538 County Road 23, Abbeville, AL 36310, or Twin Magnolias Assisted Living, 3084 U. S. Highway 431, South, Abbeville, AL 36310 or Covenant Hospice, 104 Rock Bridge Road, Dothan, AL 36303 or to the Henry County Historical Group, 5679 County Road 53, Abbeville, AL 36310 or the charity of your choice.


            Mrs. Ward was born and reared in Henry County, daughter of the late Smith Culp Hartley and Annie Bess Owens Hartley. She lived in the Tumbleton Community most of her lifetime. Mrs. Ward attended Wallace Community College where she received a degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She was formerly employed as an L.P.N. at the Southeast Alabama Medical Center and also Urology & Associates in Dothan. Mrs. Ward was member of the Balkum Baptist Church and the Home Demonstration Club. She was active in the Henry County Healthcare Authority, the Red Cross, and volunteered at the Southeast Alabama Medical Center. Mrs. Ward was preceded in death by her husband, George Earl Ward, a son, Dr. Kent Ward, a daughter, Virginia Ward Rountree, a son-in-law, Dr. Tom Rountree, two sisters, Earlene Culp and Dr. Ramona Mapp, and two brothers, Colin Dykes, and Jake Dykes.


            Surviving relatives include two daughters, Keloth Ann Thompson, Ozark; Janet Kervin (Jeff), Troy; two sons, Bruce Ward (Shirley), DeFuniak Springs, FL; and Cody Ward (Sheila), Andalusia; a sister-in-law, Louise Dykes, Pensacola, FL;  nine grandchildren, Carla Rountree, Jason Ward (Joanne), Michael Ward, Dr. Jon Ward (Misty), Joanna Ward, Geoff Ward (Camie), Ashleigh Thompson Funk (Shaun), Phillip Thompson, Joel Kervin; nine great-grandchildren; her family at Twin Magnolias Assisted Living, and her faithful caregivers.


            Serving as active pallbearers will be the grandsons.
