Ms. Thear Mae Spann Barnes passed away Friday, April 29, 2016 at her home in Kinston with her family at her side. She was 76.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 2, 2016, in the chapel of Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home in Geneva with Rev. Wesley Ard and Rev. Donnie Earles officiating. Burial will follow in the Ino Assembly of God Church Cemetery with Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home directing.  Visitation will be on Sunday, May 1, 2016 from 4 until 6 at the funeral home.

Ms. Barnes was born August 31, 1939, in Coffee County, Alabama to the late Raymond Alto and Bertha Elizabeth Mock Spann.

She worked as a spooler technician in the Cotton Mill. She was loving and devoted mother having cared for her son “Bud”.  She enjoyed gardening, canning vegetables and sewing.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her precious son Jerry (Bud) Barnes:  Brothers Dorsey Spann, James Spann and Eddie Ray Spann and Sister Wenell Powell.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years Wayne, of Kinston. Daughter, Phyllis of Kinston.   She was the proud grandmother of three grandchildren;  Damon Anderson (Michelle) Brewton, AL,  Jessica Roberts (Matt) Fitzpatrick AL,  and Nick Anderson (Brandi) of Kinston, AL. Her 5 sweet Great-Grandchildren; Abbie & Hunter Anderson,  Kinston, AL, Morgan Anderson,  Brewton, AL, and Addie Grace and Marshall Roberts,  Fitzpatrick AL.  Sisters, Vermell McDougal, Darlington, FL.   Mary Ward (Billy) Athens, AL, Maggie Nowling (Walter) Chancellor, AL, Louise Pridgen (William) of Hacoda, AL, Edna Yates ( Randall) Darlington FL., Lois Ard (Wesley) of Gaskin, FL.   Brothers, Rayburn Spann (Lissa) Donalsonville, GA, Randall Spann of Eunola, AL, and numerous nieces and nephews
