Thomas Arthur (Tommy) Southerland, a resident of Ashford, died late Wednesday night, October 14, 2015, at his home. He was 77.


            Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, October 17, 2015, in the Cedar Springs Baptist Church, near Ashford, with Reverend William Irwin officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Saturday in the church sanctuary.


            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be to the Cedar Springs Baptist Church, c/o John W. King, 974 Jack Bruner Road, Ashford, AL 36312 or to Gentiva Hospice, 2740 Headland Avenue, Dothan, AL 36303.


            Mr. Southerland was a native of the Pleasant Plains community, between Headland & Columbia, son of the late Paul Jennings Southerland and Zera Odell Granberry Southerland. He lived in Ashford since 1946 and was a 1956 graduate of Ashford High School. Mr. Southerland served his country in the Army National Guard in the Ashford unit. He co-owned and operated Southerland Motor Company in Ashford for thirty-seven years and was also engaged in farming. Mr. Southerland was a member of the Cedar Springs Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Marchman Southerland, and a daughter, Denise Southerland.


            Surviving relatives include a daughter, Teresa Southerland Steiner (Paul), a brother, Harold Southerland (Betty), and an uncle, Eugie Granberry, all of Ashford.
