DOTHAN….Vertice Habbard Skipper, a resident of Dothan, formerly of Slocomb, died Tuesday morning, April 11, 2017 in Wesley Place on Honeysuckle. She was 85.


            Graveside services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, April 15, 2017 in Memory Hill Cemetery, Hartford Highway, Dothan, with Reverend Addis Habbard officiating. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Friday at the mortuary in Headland.


            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the SAMC Foundation, Sandi McCool Champions of Hope, 1922 Fairview Avenue, Dothan, AL 36301 or to the donors church missions group or building fund.


            Mrs. Skipper, daughter of the late William Earnest Habbard and Carrie Cadenhead Habbard, was a native of Crestview, Florida but lived most of her adult lifetime in Slocomb. She attended Taylor Assembly of God Church. Mrs. Skipper was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Candace Morris.


            Surviving relatives include a daughter, Carolyn Cook Morris, Dothan; a son, Allen Duane Watson (Debbie), Shorterville; three sisters, Marie Davis (Joe),  Rehobeth, Ruth Campbell, Dothan, and Reverend Alice “Bobbie” Burdeshaw (Milton), Tallahassee, FL; four brothers, Wilmer Habbard (Sarah),  Niceville, FL., Art Habbard (Gerri) and Otis Habbard, both of Dothan, and Reverend Addis Habbard (Martha), Slocomb; six grandchildren, Pam Hall (Ronald), Natalie Fears (Brian), Allen Watson (Cassie), Sid Morris (Christina), David Watson (Misty), and Julie Bradburn (Allan); eighteen great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.


            The family would like to express their appreciation to the nurses and aides at Wesley Place on Honeysuckle South Wing and to SouthernCare Hospice for the loving care and kindness shown to Mrs. Skipper and her family during her illness.
