Virginia “Jimma” Redmon of Enterprise, AL passed away, Friday, December 21, 2012 in Enterprise, on the eve of her 88th birthday.

She was preceded in death by her father, Burt H. Redmon and her mother, Frances Pierson Redmon, her dear aunt, Annie Rae Pierson and her sister, Mary R. Helms.

Survivors include her sister and brother-in-law, Claire and Herbert Gannon; her brother and sister-in-law, Burt and Michelle Redmon; one niece and seven nephews; several great-nieces and nephews.

Jimma was affectionately called Mimi by her family. Her primary focus in life was her love of children.  She served in the First Baptist Church Nursery for over 50 years.  As special as that was, even more important to her in life, was her most active participation in the rearing of three different generations of nieces and nephews.  For years, she was the "family photographer", and closets today are full of her pictures.  Three pictures of the youngest generation were on her bedside table when she died.  The highlight of each Christmas Eve was watching her home movies and relishing each year as the movies documented the growth of our family.  She always made Christmas so special because she knew how much her children (young and old) loved Christmas, and she so loved each of us.  Her life's motto could very well have been: "Suffer the little children to come unto me."
Our family is most appreciative of all the outpourings of love given by so many people, and her church family, during her illness.  We specifically mention the love of her life long friends, Mildred Wilkerson and Thelma Platt.  We thank so much Regina Harrison and the Wynnwood staff who have ministered to her during her last years.   We offer a deep debt of gratitude to all of her medical care providers including the superb staff of Covenant Hospice, Dr. Melanie Nicholls, Wendy, Lindsay, Carla, and Tracy.  A final word of sincere thanks to Dr. Allen Latimer, and for the unparallelled love and care given to her by the late Dr. Steve Sherrer.

Jimma had written this in her bible on February 11, 1943, “So long as we love we serve; so long as we are loved by others, I would almost say that we are indispensable; and no man is useless while he has friends.”

Private graveside services will be held for family and close friends at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, December 24th at Enterprise City Cemetery.
