At about 11pm on February 1, 2016, Mrs. Waunett Missouri Phillips McKay was granted a long-held wish; when in the presence of her loved ones, she died as she had lived with great dignity, peacefully and without causing any fuss.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William (Willie) Byrd and Delia Dora Gladden Phillips, her husband James Eric McKay, and her 9 brothers and sisters.

She leaves to cherish her memory one son, James (Jimmy) Eric McKay, Jr and daughter-in-law Connie of Montgomery, AL; one daughter Kathleen McKay Martin and son-in-law Don of Springfield, MO; three grandchildren, Kristina Leah Loveland and her husband JC, Eric Andrew Martin and his wife Gabrielle, and Erica Lindsey McKay; five greatgrandchildren; two sister-in-law’s; and a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins, and other loving relatives and friends.

Mrs. McKay was born in Coffee Springs, Geneva Co, Alabama. She lived and worked in Geneva and Coffee County until she moved to Mobile, AL. There she met and married her husband. They returned to make their home in Geneva, AL where she continued to live after his death in 1956. She received her nursing degree from George Wallace School of Nursing in Dothan, AL. She pursued her career and worked in Montgomery, AL until her retirement when she returned to her roots in Chancellor, Geneva Co, AL. In her later years, she moved to Springfield, Missouri to live with her daughter and her family where she lived until her death.

The funeral will be held at Providence United Methodist Church, Chancellor, AL on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at 2pm. The family will receive visitors from noon until 2pm at Providence United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Providence Methodist Church Cemetery, Providence Community, Geneva County, AL with Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home directing.
