OZARK, ALABAMA. . .Wilbur Sullivant, a former resident of Ozark, Alabama, died Saturday, June 28, 2014, in the Summers Landing Assisted Living in Douglas, Georgia. He was 78.


            Memorial services will be held at 4:30 P.M. Tuesday, July 1, 2014, in the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, Ozark, with Chaplain (COL-R) Alvin M. (Sonny) Moore, III and Reverend Britt Peavy officiating. Graveside services, with full military honors, will be held 11:00 A.M. (EDT) Wednesday, July 2, 2014, in the Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery, Ft Mitchell, Alabama. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 3:30 until 4:30 P.M. Tuesday in the church sanctuary.


            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, 2926 Andrews Avenue, Ozark, AL 36360.


            Mr. Sullivant was born and reared in Ozark, son of the late William Ivey Sullivant and Clara Mae Sanders Sullivant. A Navy veteran of the Vietnam War, he served his country in the U. S. Army and the U. S. Navy and retired with rank of Sergeant from the Army National Guard in the Ozark unit.  After his retirement from the military, Mr. Sullivant was employed by the Newton and Ariton Police Departments as a policeman. He was also formerly employed by U. S. Civil Service at Ft. Rucker. Mr. Sullivant was a member of the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, the D.A.V., the V.F.W., and the American Legion. He lived in Ozark most of his lifetime before moving to Douglas, Georgia. Mr. Sullivant was preceded in death by his wife, Janie Aurecia Jenkins Sullivant.


            Surviving relatives include a daughter, Aurecia Darlene Nowland, Cherry Valley, Illinois; two sons, James Wilbur Sullivant, Dothan; and Rickey Gobert (Janelle), Charleston, S.C.; three sisters, Arlene Langford (Bill), Panama City, FL; Myra Nell Tellier (Joe), Ozark; and Lorene Bare (Jim), Broxton, GA; a brother, Max Sullivant, (Betty), Panama City, FL; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
