William Earnest Downey, Sr. of Hartford passed away Monday, February 15, 2016 in Flowers Hospital. He was 81.

 

Funeral services will be held at 3pm Friday, February 19, 2016 at Hartford Baptist Church with Rev. Buddy Hood and Rev. Bruce Spivey officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the church. The services will be under the direction of Jimmy Bottoms of Bottoms Garden Chapel Funeral Home. Mr. Downey will be laid to rest in Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, FL on Monday, February 22, 2016.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Gentiva Hospice, 2740 Headland Avenue, Dothan, AL 36303.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Cecil and Molly Geneva Franklin Downey; two brothers, John Cecil Downey, Jr. and Jimmie Earl Downey.

 

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Brown Downey of Hartford; three children, William Downey, Jr. of Niceville, FL., Pamela Gail Bess (Michael Paul Bess) of Hartford; Kimberely Renee Gumpert (George Taylor Gumpert) of Niceville, FL.; grandchildren, Brandy Leigh Merrifield (Michael E. Merrifield) of Niceville, FL., Aaron Gumpert of Niceville, FL., Tommi Nicole Dussault (John Dussault) of Stafford, VA., Autum Krystal Rene’ Gumpert of Niceville, FL., Michael Vann Bess of Columbus, OH., Valery Michelle Bess of Charlott, NC., Christopher Mark Bess of Troy, OH., Shelley Marie Bess of Huntsville, Jeffery Nathaniel Bess of Tallahassee, FL., Austin Kirkland Bess of Lynchburg, VA; great-grandchildren, Stephen Merrifield, Alexander Mayer, Russell Merrifield, Bryden Alexander Dussault, Jaxon Paul Dussault, Carolina Renee Gumpert; several nieces and nephews.
