COLUMBIA. . .William Alec Granberry, a resident of the Hebron Community of Henry County, died early Saturday morning, August 24, 2013, at his home. He was 86.


            Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, August 26, 2013, in the Hebron Baptist Church with Reverend Ronald C. Baker and Reverend Ted Forrester officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 5:00 P.M. Sunday at the mortuary in Headland.


            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hebron Baptist Church, c/o Edwin L. Glover, 6952 State Highway 134, East, Columbia, AL 36319.


            Mr. Granberry was a lifelong resident of the Hebron Community, between Headland and Columbia, son of the late Oscar Mitchell Granberry and Lennie Mae Marshall Granberry. He served his country in the U. S. Army during World War II and also in the Army National Guard in the Headland Unit. Mr. Granberry was formerly employed by the Henry County Road & Bridge Department, Couch, Inc., WestPoint Stevens, and also as a security guard. He was a member of the Hebron Baptist Church. Mr. Granberry was preceded in death by his wife, Vennie Lee Culpepper Granberry, a sister, Lula Mixon, four brothers, Raymond Granberry, Fred Granberry, Byrd Granberry, and Bobby Ray Granberry.


            Surviving relatives include a daughter, Debbie Floyd (Kevin), Columbia; a son, Danny Granberry (Carla), Headland; two grandsons, Scott Floyd and Matthew Floyd; a sister, Quilla Granberry, a resident of the Henry County Health & Rehabilitation Facility, formerly of the Hebron Community; a brother, Herbert Granberry (Carol), Abbeville; sisters-in-law, Julia Granberry and Edith Bailey Granberry, both of Dothan; several nieces and nephews.


            Serving as active pallbearers will be Kevin Floyd, Scott Floyd, Matthew Floyd, Joe Mixon, Kirby Brown, and Gary Knight.
