ABBEVILLE. .  .William Dennis Scott, a resident of Abbeville, died Friday afternoon, August 26, 2016, at his home. He was 76.


            Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, August 28, 2016, in the Holman-Abbeville Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Norman C. Simmons and Reverend Henry Fullington officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Addition Cemetery in Eufaula. The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 6:00 P.M. Saturday at the mortuary.


            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, c/o Henry Reynolds, 3945 County Road 40, Newville, AL 36353.


            Mr.  Scott was born and reared in Abbeville, son of the late William Ellis (Jack) Scott and Johnie Mae Ethridge Scott. He lived in Port St. Joe, Florida and Camilla, Georgia before returning to Abbeville in 1972. Mr. Scott formerly served in the U. S. Army Reserve in the Abbeville unit. He was a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Mr. Scott was retired from Dixon Lumber Company in Eufaula. In earlier years, he was employed by Piggly-Wiggly, Carter Pulpwood & Timber, Stone Container and Abbeville Forest Products. Mr. Scott was preceded in death by a sister, Debra Scott and a nephew, John Carroll Scott.


            Surviving relatives include his wife, Carolyn Wood Scott; three sons, Tim Scott (Christine), Chesterfield, SC; Terry Scott (Melinda), Headland; and Tracy Scott (Lisa), Headland; four brothers, Roger Scott (Freddie), Wayne Scott (Karen), Gary Scott, and Jim Scott (Lisa), all of Abbeville; six grandchildren, Makayla Scott, Marissa Scott, Ashton Scott, Addison Scott, Will Scott and Trey Scott; an aunt, Clyde Hall, Abbeville; an uncle, Tom Ethridge, Dothan.


            Serving as active pallbearers will be Roger Scott, Wayne Scott, Gary Scott, Otto Singletary, Will Scott and David Spurlock.
