Willie Floyd Blackman passed away May 2, 2013.  He was born in Ozark, AL on December 30, 1925 to J. Judson and Ola Mae Gulledge Blackman.


 


Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A. M. Tuesday, May 7, 2013 from the Chapel of Ward Wilson Funeral Home with Reverends George Peeples and Steve Merritt officiating. Burial will follow in Ozark City Cemetery, Ozark, AL with Ward Wilson Funeral Home Directing . The family will receive friends at the funeral home chapel from 10 until 11 A. M. one hour prior to the service.


 The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Covenant  Hospice , 104 Rock Bridge Rd. Dothan, AL 36303.


 


Upon the death of his father the children were placed in the Methodist Children’s Home in Selma, AL.  Years later the family moved to Danville, VA, then to Winston Salem, NC.  Mr. Blackman enlisted into the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946. He finished high school in 1947 and was married first to Ada Easler of Columbia, SC in 1950, and was married second to Ann C. Smith Webb in 1966.


 


Five children were born during the first marriage. They are Karen C. Busby of Atlanta, GA, Ava Lundquist of Lake Charles, LA, Paula Teague of Hickory, NC, William Douglas Blackman of Dothan, AL, and Robert Jurdy Blackman of N. Ogden, UT.   He is also survived by two loving step daughters, Lillian Ann Ward of Greenville, SC, and Judy Webb Bailey of Powdersville, SC, 31 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 3 nieces and many grandnieces and nephews.


 


He retired as a rural letter carrier after having 28 years of federal service. As a master gardener he was involved in grafting fruit and nut trees, planting and growing vegetables and flowers, having raised beds of many championship roses.


He was the family historian and spent many hours researching genealogy.
