Wynell Kathleen Knight Adkinson, a resident of Dothan, passed from this life into the presence of the Lord on Thursday, March 20, 2014. Born on September 28, 1911, she was 102 years old.

Funeral services will be held in the chapel of Ward Wilson Funeral Home on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at 2 PM with Dr. Johnny Fain and Reverend Bob Gross officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. A family burial will follow the service at Dothan City Cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 78 years, Cedell Adkinson, her parents, B. Oakley and Alberta Etheridge Knight, 2 sisters, Betty Jean Knight Blackmon and Helen Virginia Knight Young, a brother Durwood Knight and a daughter-in-law, Jane Earle Nall Adkinson.

Mrs. Adkinson was born and raised in the Ashford Community and moved to Dothan upon her marriage in 1933. She was employed by the J. C. Penny Co. and remained a faithful employee for 40 years. After retirement, she and Cedell enjoyed traveling, visiting all of the 48 contiguous states, Mexico and Canada by automobile. They enjoyed fishing, and had many back-yard cookouts with friends.

She was a former member of Headland Avenue Baptist Church, Ridgecrest Baptist Church and presently is a member of First Baptist Church, Dothan. In these churches, she was active in the Sunday School, Baptist Training Union and Women’s Missionary Society.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Jane Adkinson, three grandchildren, Judith Kathrine Steeves, Jon Wesley Adkinson, both of Atlanta, GA and Albert Jefferson Adkinson (Suzanne) of Blanco, TX. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren, Kate Steeves and Grey Adkinson of Atlanta, and Allie, Will, Tori, and Ty Adkinson of Blanco, TX, several nieces, nephews and cousins, and a special friend, Judy Gainey.

The family would like to thank the nurses and caregivers on the fifth floor, Flowers Hospital and those with Covenant Hospice and also Dr. Russell Bedsole, for their loving and compassionate care during these last days.
