PIKE COUNTY AL:  4:00 PM   Late this afternoon a Pilcher Ambulance was traveling north on Highway 231 in Pike County on a medical transport. The accident occured in the south end of Pike County near Brundidge.

The northbound ambulance left the roadway to the left, crossed the median, struck a tree and burst into flames.

A private citizen witnessed the accident and risked his life to save the persons in the ambulance. The private citizen entered the ambulance removing the patient, the medic in the back of the ambulance and the ambulance driver as the ambulance burst into flames.

The driver, retired Dothan Fireman who now worked with Pilcher Ambulance, Don Parrish, was pronounced dead on the scene. A second medic who was in the back of the ambulance was transported to a Dothan Hospital. The patient being transported did not receive any significant injuries from the crash.

The private citizen who risked his life to save others required immediate transport to the burn center from injuries received while working to save others.

Dothan Fire Chief Larry Williams, who Don Parrish worked with and under his supervision for many years in the Dothan Fire Department praised Don Parrish for his decades of service to the community in emergency medicine. Parrish began in Ashford with Ashford Rescue.

Chief Williams asked the community to keep the Parrish family in your prayers, the Pilcher Ambulance family in your prayers, and the entire Dothan-Houston County EMS community in your prayers. Don Parrish was a dedicated member who worked to save lives and worked with all agencies on a daily basis.

Pilcher Ambulance Service runs a spectacular ambulance service operation. They have mechanics who work on and keep all of their equipment in top operating condition. And Joey Pilcher personally assists in washing and maintaining the ambulance fleet so they are always clean and sanitary. Joey Pilcher hands his own mechanic shop who top primary focus is in the proper maintenance of the ambulance fleet.

Joey and Debbie Pilcher and the entire Pilcher Ambulance family are completely devestated in what happended today and the loss of Don Parrish life. He was their friend, fellow medic more than an employee. Don Parrish was someone who could be counted on when needed.

Joey and Debbie Pilcher were unable to make many comments because of their concern for the staff, Parrish family, and the heartbreak they felt.

They thanked each and every person who called, prayed, responded, worked to save their people's lives and ministered in this tragic event.

The Pilcher's join Dothan Fire Chief Larry Williams in asking for prayer for the Parrish family, the Pilcher family, the Dothan Fire family and the entire EMS family.
