20th JUDICIAL CIRCUIT - HOUSTON and HENRY COUNTY:      On March 27, 2020 Dothan Police arrested Sirlathian Anthwan Meadows on two counts of attempted murder.

That arrest was where Meadows was alleged to have shot two people on March 26, 2020. It was almost one year later that a Houston County Grand Jury indicted Sirlathian Anthwan Meadows on the two counts of attempted murder.

The case was recently tried in Houston County before 20th Judicial Circuit Court Judge Henry D. ( Butch ) Binford. Meadows was represented by well known Criminal Defense Attorney Shaun McGhee.

Sirlathian Anthwan Meadows drove a semi truck for a living. He was home this particular weekend of March 26, 2020.

Meadows received a phone call from a friend who was having trouble from a individual or individuals.

Meadows was experienced in traveling and knew how things could happen. For protection, and perfectly legal, he carried a AR-15 with him. Meadows went with full intentions to calm the situation and did not go to create issues or cause trouble.

Well, Sirlathian Anthwan Meadows plans did not match those of the person(s) causing issues. One of those causing issues pulled a 9 MM handgun. Meadows went to leave and was shot in the thigh. In fact there were a total of 6 shell casings of the 9 MM caliber, one being fired from a second weapon.

Meadows, running away, was struck in the thigh as he fled. Meadows fired 12 rounds from the AR-15, striking one the males causing trouble and a second person.

Defense Attorney Shaun McGhee presented the defense very slow and easy to understand for the jury of 12. Attorney Shaun McGhee said Meadows was acting in self defense. While he took the firearm over there, it was not with the intent to cause any problems but only to defend himself and others.

At the conclusion of testimony, Judge Binford charged the jury and deliberation began.

After 2 1/2 hours the jury returned a NOT GUILTY verdict in the case State of Alabama verses Sirlathian Anthwan Meadows by unanimous verdict.

After the verdict and each juror was polled by Judge Binford, the jury was dismissed and the defendant was set free.
