HOUSTON COUNTY:     10:55 PM    Houston County Sheriff 911 dispatched a structure fire located at 752 Harden Road.

Dispatched to the scene, Madrid Volunteer Fire Department, Southern Junction Volunteer Fire Department, Hodgesville Volunteer Fire Department, and Rehobeth EMS.

The first emergency unit on the scene was an ALEA - Trooper. Shortly after his arrival the ALEA - Trooper reported no flames or smoke visible.

The fire units checked it out and it was only an electtrical plug shortage and no actual structure fire.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The key word to the emergency response to a structure fire was, "VOLUNTEERS" responded. So first at 10:55 PM these men and women leaped from their cool beds and responded to enter extreme heat had this been an actual structure fire.

The majority of the fire engines, equipment and ambulance which responded burn dielsel fuel. Earlier tonight as I passed FLying J Truck Stop. Highway 231 South and Ross Clark Circle, the prices were: DIESEL FUEL $ 6.05 - per gallon credit; $ 5.99 cash - per gallon: GASOLINE $ 4.59 per gallon.

These are VOLUNTEERS out and working to save their neighbors lives and residences. SHould this had been an actual structure fire these volunteers would have worked for hours, with extreme hot coniditions, to save their community residence life, home and possessions.

The Houston County Commission has gotten millions of dolllars of ARPA Money. The priorities of the Houston County Commission has been to (1) run water lines to the Industrial Development Park off State Line Road at the Alabama/Florida line. (2) new windows for the six story building in the 400 block of North Oates which was primarily purchased to bail family and friends out who had invested in National Healthcarem (3) giving the City of Dothan $ 1 million dolllars for green space in downtown Dothan, $ 1 million dollars to construct a storage warehouse to house the Sheriff Deprtment equipment that was at the Houston County Farm Center and some more items.

The Houston County Commission has sold the Houston County Farm Center for $ 2.2. to 2.5 million dollars, to purchase a building in downtown Dothan, the old Five Star Building, for the Houston County Sheriff Department. This building has no room to groww, expand parking and is landlocked.

THe Houston County Commission, because of the sell of the Houston County Farm Center, is paying $ 40,000.00 a year for prime commercial property where a Dollar General sit just for storage of voting machines.

The Houston County Commission has to make facilities for the Houston County Water Authority, Veteran Affairs Office, Soil and Water Conservationm and storage of equipment used to cut the grass of the buildings.

All of the above have already been funded.

The Houston County Commission has already paid to the Alabama Association of County Commissioners over $ 550,000.00 for advise on how to spend this money.

BUT ... with fire and EMS struggling on equipment, high prices of fuel thanks to President Biden, the Houston County Commission will not discuss the funding of the ARPA Money with fire and EMS and has not allocated any of the money to fire and EMS.

Wonder why wait until after election?

RSN was on the scene of this fire. NO HOUSTON COUNTY COMMISSIONER was seen at the fire or called enroute to the fire.

In closing, what did the people of Houston County or the operation of Houston County really agin with the sell of over 40 acres of prime property called the Houston County Farm Center?

They have promised the Houston County Fire and EMS, which responds to and protects the citizens of Houston County some of the millions, ( like $ 12 million if I remember )but has not said how much or what for, and waiting until after election.

Your Houston County Commissioners draw a sslary of $ 33,000.00 per year, plus cost of living raises, and $ 250.00 a month to furnish their own cars, health insurance, and in 10 years are vested in the Retirement Systems of Alabama and will draw a pension the rest of their lives.

The men and women who fight fires, ZERO!
