AFTER SUSPECT KICKS WINDOWS FOR TRANSPORT VEHICLE

DOTHAN:    Dothan 911 dispatched Dothan Police to a possible burglary in progress at Executive Inn in the 3000 block of Ross Clark Circle.

For a little over an hour Dothan Police were on the sidewalk outside of a motel room where a possible suspect was held inside a room in the bathroom. A Dothan Police K-9 was outside the room with officers.

RSN was live but held the camera off the room where the law enforcement officers were located. We never want to jeopardize the safety and welfare of the officers and you never know when the person inside could be watching the live streamed.

After a few minutes on the scene WDHN TV 18 Ben Stanfield and WTVY TV 4 Ken Curtis arrived on the scene.

The suspect was taken into custody after about an hour. The suspect, who was without a shirt, was checked by Dothan Fire Engine 3 who had been staged in front of Executive Inn during the stand off. After the suspect was removed from the room and placed in a chair Dothan Fire checked the suspect and he was left in police custody.

As officers neared the police car the suspect could be heard saying call 911. Well sir, 911 is here...multiple responders for 911.

After a struggle, of which Dothan Police handled well, the suspect was finally placed in the rear of a Dothan Police Cruiser. In a few minutes we heard glass break and the suspect apparently kicked the rear windows of the police cruiser out.

The suspect was removed from one patrol unit to another. This will result in additional criminal charges against the defendant.

The suspect was transported to jail with several officers in tow of the primary transport unit to the jail. The full background information is not known at this time. But you get a real sense of what officers undergo when dealing with people such as this.

The officers might have, based on information we just got, have carried the suspect to Southeast Health for evaluation first before transporting to the jail.

Dothan Police did a great job in handling the situation for apprehension, his struggle and fight to be placed on the police vehicle and after he kicked the windows out.

An example of real life as a law enforcement officer.
