HENRY COUNTY: 11:55 PM. This article is written with hesitation, but I feel it is needed.
It is written with hesitation because it happened just a few minutes ago and I do not know the outcome.
First, HATS OFF TO ABBEVILLE FIRE - RESCUE … heard them call enroute to Southeast Health earlier this evening, CPR in progress. Heard them when they arrived at Southeast Health with the patient.
No idea where the scene was at, but from Abbeville Fire - Rescue to Southeast Health is a 33 minute drive. And they called CPR in progress in Abbeville.
I think, do not know for sure, there were two in the back of the ambulance working on the patient. But for 33 minutes of doing CPR, chest compressions and bagging, ( breathing ), fighting to save a life.
The elected public servants failed to use the CARES ACT money and headed that way on ARPA money for everything but life saving equipment. Some monitors Abbeville Rescue received there was once discussion of having to return them. Not sure if they got them paid for or not.
But it is disgraceful that those elected public servants, namely the Henry County Probate Judge and Henry County Commissioners, have not made sure adequate funds and equipment are not purchased for the ambulances.
Abbeville Fire - Rescue should have had LUCAS DEVICES purchases and monitors with the CARES ACT money. The ambulance services are given, sometimes bot not always, $ 12,000.00 a year from the Nursing Home. All the Henry County Commission gives them is the cold shoulder.
The LUCAS DEVICE is a device you place on a patient which does the chest compressions are the medically prescribed intervals. And it is a long way from Abbeville to the hospital. The choices (1) Flowers Hospital (2) Southeast Health (3) Medical Center-Barbour.
Looking at some of your ages, Commissioners, you need to invest in quality emergency medical care for your county. Emergencies do not make appointments with the victims, times or locations.
I hope and pray this person survives. But I commend those on the ambulance for slugging it out giving whomever a fighting chance.
If the attention of the Henry County Commission Chairman and Henry County Commissioners is not gotten, ‘ol YELLA WOOD needs to take one of those 2 x 4’s and get their attention.
