HOUSTON COUNTY: 11:39 AM Dothan-Houston County 911 dispatched a motor vehicle accident, 7990 South U.S. Highway 231 . The initial reports from the person reporting was five vehicles were involved.
Emergency units responded from Rehobeth Fire - EMS, Hodgesville Fire, Houston County Sheriff Deputies, ALEA - Troopers.
On the arrival of emergency vehicles there were four vehicles. All were northbound side of Highway 231 in front of Sadie's Flea Market.
None of the injuries were life threatening injuries.
ALEA - Troopers are in charge of the accident investigation.
A QUESTION WAS ASKED WHY EMERGENCY VEHICLES PARK AS THEY DO, WHICH OFTEN TIMES IMPEDES THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC.
If you have ever dealt with the motoring public you will find they are often times not observant when approaching a motor vehicle accident scene. More often then not they are "rubber necking" to look at the vehicles in the accident.
Depending on the positions of the vehicles involved in the accident, law enforcement and Fire trucks park in order to act as a barrier for the emergency service workers treating the injured on the scene. It is much preferred for the fire engine to get struck then the emergency service worker. It can be replaced while the worker can not.
IN addition it allows the emergency service worker to concentrate on delivering quality medical care to the patient rather than constantly looking over his or her shoulder for the motoring public.
The fire engines do create obstacles for law enforcement in requiring them to re-direct traffic or stop traffic. However in today's motoring public it has become a major safety issue.
THANK YOU to the men and women of Hodgesville Volunteer Fire, Rehobeth Fire - EMS, Matt Boster - Captain of Cottonwood Ambulance and Rescue and Fire Chief for Southern Junction Volunteer Fire, Madrid Volunteer Fire Department, the Houston County Sheriff Deputies, and ALEA Troopers for your work.
